Steps to Heaven: Hugh is a Child of God

Quick update

We have a new little Catholic in the house! Our baby was baptised yesterday, and still smells like the wonderful fragrant chrism oil!

It is by the power of Baptism, in fact, that, freed of original sin, we are inserted into Jesus’ relation to God the Father; that we are bearers of a new hope, for Baptism gives us this new hope: the hope of going on the path of salvation our whole life long. And this hope nothing and no one can extinguish, for it is a hope that does not disappoint. Remember, hope in the Lord never disappoints.

Hugh was wearing a family baptismal gown that was my grandfather’s and is at least 95 years old. Many other babies from that side of the family have worn it. The hand made white blanket was made by my mother in law and Clara also had it at her Baptism.

We had to cancel our lunch gathering/reception/party afterwards because we didn’t want to share the colds we have been plagued with for the past week with any of our guests. So we celebrated with just family, but it was a great, beautiful and warm! (+13 Celsius after weeks of -20C and below… quite enjoyed!) dare I say “spring” day?

Congrats! I just joined the Church last year at Easter Vigil when I was 36 weeks pregnant and it was such a blessing to have her baptized as a Catholic just 3 months later. My other two were baptized in a different church so we had made a profession of faith for them rather than a baptism so it was extra special to get a real Catholic baptism for her!
